Carlos Teijeiro Barjas comes from the port city of Ferrol, in Galicia (northwest of Spain). He received his B.S. (2006) and M.A.S. (2008) in Computer Science and Computer Architecture and Technology from the University of A Coruña, also in Galicia, and then he continued working as predoctoral research fellow and teaching assistant in the Computer Architecture Group of the same university. He collaborated with the Supercomputing Center of Galicia, Hewlett-Packard (USA) and the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (Germany) during some years, until he finally obtained his PhD in Computer Architecture and Parallel Programming in 2013. After that he started working as postdoctoral research assistant in the Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation (ICAMS) at the Ruhr-University Bochum (Germany). There he worked on the application of HPC solutions for large-scale atomistic simulations and the optimization and the general development of efficient support for simulation codes in order to provide ways to effectively implement scale-bridging for materials science, also keeping a close collaboration with the Jülich Supercomputing Centre. Finally, in the late summer of 2018 he switched to the area of computational support to research by joining SURFsara in Amsterdam (The Netherlands), where he currently works as advisor for cluster computing and coordinator of training activities.
