Early Stage Researcher

Laura Zaragoza Infante was born in Valencia, Spain. She studied her Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and her Master’s Degree in Research in Molecular and Cell Biology and Genetics at the University of Valencia.

During the 2nd course of her degree, she joined a laboratory from the same university, where she had a deeper contact with Molecular Biology. She worked there for 6 months, studying the effects of osmotic and oxidative stress in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Afterwards, she worked on an internship in the Institute of Biomedicine of Valencia for 2 years, while she was studying her 3rd and 4th course of her Degree. She worked in the Unit of Structural Enzymopathology, and she studied interactions between different proteins of cyanobacteria. Finally, she joined the Unit of Genomics of Tuberculosis, where she did her Final Master’s Thesis. Her project consisted of designing faster ways of diagnosing resistance to antibiotics in Mycobacterium tuberculosis using NGS technologies like MinION.

Her interests in research are very multidisciplinary, from Molecular Biology and Immunology to Genomics, focusing on the improvement of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and the possibility of translating research from bench to bedside.
