Early Stage Researcher

Àlex Moreno Giró was born in Figueres, Spain. He studied Biochemistry at University of Barcelona and he obtained a Master’s degree in Translational Medicine from the same university. He had the opportunity to work and be part of different laboratory projects. He worked 6 months at IBMB (Institute of Molecular Biology of Barcelona) as a non-graduated student in a laboratory investigating the effects of prions in the yeast cell cycle. He designed a screening method to identify the disaggregation of prionic molecules in a yeast model. Then he worked 6 months at IIBB (Institute of Biomedical Sciences of Barcelona) as a master student investigating the effects of different phosphodiesterase inhibitor drugs on macrophage RAW 264.7 polarization during different inflammatory conditions. The results of this project were published as a poster in the Neuroscience Annual Meeting in Washington DC in November 2017.

After he finished his Master's degree, Àlex worked as a researcher in the universitätsklinikum of Mainz (Germany), for 3 months, in a project that aimed to study the effects of EGFL7 factor in oligodendrocyte myelination and differentiation.
