Key Objectives

COSMIC main objective
Deliver the next generation of leading, entrepreneurial, and creative systems medicine professionals having expertise, skills, and experience to successfully combat complex human disorders . In COSMIC we will focus on B-cell lymphoma and rheumatoid arthritis, diseases that originate from abnormal functioning of immune cells.

COSMIC key-objectives

  1. Establish state-of-the art experimental approaches to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms that control the normal germinal centre reaction and its role in B-cell lymphoma (WP3) and rheumatoid arthritis (WP4) and to enable computational modelling of these mechanisms (WP5);
  2. Establish state-of-the-art (multiscale) computational models to formulate new hypotheses about the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying B-cell lymphoma and rheumatoid arthritis, and to guide the design of new experiments for WP3 and WP4 (WP5);
  3. Combine experimental and computational approaches to identify putative prognostic and diagnostic markers, and drug targets for B-cell lymphoma and rheumatoid arthritis (WP3, WP4WP5);
  4. Establish a unique cross-fertilization between the oncology and auto-immunity research fields (WP3, WP4, WP5);
  5. Train young researchers with multi-disciplinary and multi-sectorial scientific and transferable skills required in systems medicine and translational medicine (WP2);
  6. Contribute to the European systems medicine infrastructure through collaboration with existing initiatives, and contribution of best practices that reduce time and costs to address clinical needs (WP2-6) .
