Overview of the COSMIC e-learnig activities
ESR First Contact 
Organiser: B1a(AMC).
Setup: Video conference (WebEx). 4 hours in 2 weeks.
November 2018
Topic : The aim of this video conference is to allow the fellows to get to know their fellow colleagues at an early stage of the project. The video conference will be moderated by the COSMIC coordinators (Antoine van Kampen, Jeroen Guikema). The fellows provide a 10 minute powerpoint presentation about their (i) background (ii) previous research experience, (iii) individual COSMIC project, and (iv) hobbies. In addition, prior to the video conference the fellows will prepare 1 slide summary that will be used for outreach (e.g., COSMIC News, Facebook, Twitter). The coordinators will briefly introduce you to administrative (e.g., use of website, social media, PCDP) and training aspects (e-learning, workshops, local training) of COSMIC.
The landscape of translational medicine
Organiser: PO1 (ELH).
Duration: 2 weeks / 8hrs per week workload
November - December 2018

Topics: Translational medicine is a discipline in biomedical research that aims to turn observations in the laboratory, clinic and community into interventions that improve the health of individuals and the public. This training course introduces you to key aspects of translational research and medicines development. The course consists of five modules and each of these modules consists of different learning units. You will learn through lectures, videos, webcasts, tests and quizzes. You will start the online medical course with a general introduction to translational medicine. You will learn about the different research and development phases of a new medicine, including the challenges, risks and costs that are involved in the process. Hence you will learn about target validation and predictive models during modules 2 and 3. Learning module 4 will introduce you to Biomarkers and personalized medicine, so you will understand how to monitor drug effects in treated patients. During the last module 5 the focus will be on European regulations in this field.

Essentials of on online course
Organiser: PO1 (ELH).
Duration: 5 weeks.
May - June 2019
Topics: Most fellows will have (future) teaching responsibilities. Broad introduction to the field of online learning, teach you how to communicate effectively and efficiently with students. Improve time management skills. fellows learn to select the most appropriate e-learning methods and use them optimally. Develop the abilities and experience required to teach effectively online.
Writing successful Grant Proposals
Organiser: PO1 (ELH).
Duration: 4 weeks.
Topics: Convey research ideas in a clear and compelling manner with realistic objectives, state-of-the-art methodology and a well-structured work plan and budget. Present yourself as the best person to carry out the research idea.
Project management
Organiser: PO1 (ELH).
Duration: 1 weeks.
Topics: Introduce fellows to the principles of effective project management and the application of these principles to their own projects. Planning, implementation and monitoring will be addressed. Personal and organisational context of research.
IPR and Patents
Organisers: ET3 (Sabina Heim).
Setup: online interactive training using video conferencing.
Duration: 1 day
Topics : What is IPR? What is a patent? Why should I apply for it? What can I use it for? What’s in it for me? What is the content of a patent? What is a patentable invention? What are the criteria for patentability? Balance between patenting and publication Overview of the patenting process Patenting and collaborating with Industry, etc.
